Time for some “hardening”

The crew from RSC arrived on time and worked all day, measuring, laser-lining things and pushing dirt around.

The gravel in the barn was a little low and the driveway in front was a little high. So some pile A to pile B had to happen. An additional load of gravel was needed as well.

As all the correct levels were determined and marked, the forms were placed and secured in place. Next the vapor barrier (plastic) was spread. There is a tremendous amount of moisture in the soil and this barrier prevents it from migrating into the finished concrete. Without this the moisture would condense on the walls of the barn and make it “rain” inside. That would not be ideal!

Rebar was laid out and secured. Tools and machinery picked up. The majority of the crew left for the day.

Here’s a time-lapse video of most of the work done inside.

One exception was a fellow they call T-Bone. He ran the skid-steer and leveled the driveway. The apron (20feet) in front will be formed and concreted after the interior is done.

Concrete arrives on Monday morning the 25th. Four days later I can seal it with the product supplied by the concrete company.

Long time coming but I am starting to see the end.

On your mark…

This is THE WEEK I’ve been waiting for – it seems like forever. If all goes according to plan (let’s keep Murphy’s Law out of this), the concrete in the barn will get poured tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed and watch for updates!

It’s getting hard…

Well not yet, but soon! Spring is here, bids were put out, and the contract has been awarded! Will wonders never cease. Shawn Larsen, owner of Rock Solid Concrete not only called me right back but gave me an estimate over the phone before coming out and certifying he will do the job for the price quoted.

He is booked six weeks out, as he told me initially, so we will get done some time in May. The Backend of Nowhere Garage will have a floor!

So what’s next? I still need to frame in and close in the office space. Then the last biggie will be insulation.

Oh, and a lift. Anyone know of any good sales?
